Herbal Glossary





The following ingredients compose our shampoos and conditioners. They form products that give your pets soft, glossy coats and healthy skin.



Colloidal Oatmeal Shampoo:  Our Most Popular Product


  • Colloidal Oatmeal – used for centuries as a treatment for dry skin, our 3.8% infusion also gives your pet’s coat a glossy, healthy shine.


  • Elder Flower – excellent for skin irritations, even minor burns.


  • Menthol Crystals – effective as a topical antiseptic.


  • Also includes: Green Tea Extract, Camphor Crystals, Aloe Vera, American Cranes Bill, Chickweed, Elder Flower Berries, Goldenseal, Horse Tail, Irish Moss, Marigold Flower, Marshmallow Root, Slippery Elm, Witch Hazel, Garlic, Woodwort, Thyme, and Purified Deionized Water.



Orange Cream Shampoo and Conditioner

  • Green Tea Extract – conditions the skin to make it soft and supple.


  • Oat Straw – prevents flaky skin, a common problem in dogs.


  • Aloe Vera – a skin emollient, Aloe Vera also has medicinal properties that can ward off wrinkles, insect bites, and other skin irritations.


  • St. John’s Wort – an overall topical wonder, St. John’s Wort treats the skin and can soothe burns, sores, bruises and other skin problems.


  • Witch Hazel – this herb is used for all skin irritations, and is especially good for insect bites and stings and can provide relief from poison ivy.


  • Fresh Extracts of Orange, Tangerine, and Mango give our Old-Fashioned Orange Cream products their distinctive aromatherapy scent.


  • Also includes:  Cleavers, Garlic, Poke Root, Echinacea, Wild Indigo, Yellow Dock, Marigold, Avocadamide MEA, and Elder Flower complete the formulas.  The Orange Cream Conditioner also includes 22 amino acids and Vitamin B5.






Doc Ackerman’s Citronella products are excellent, non-chemical formulas that offer superior solutions to flea and tick problems. 


Citronella Shampoo

  • Citronella - this oil wards away pests. It has been used for centuries - in many forms - for repelling fleas, ticks and flying insects. 
  • Eucalyptus – another oil that pests find unappetizing, eucalyptus is also soothing to the skin and works as a deodorant.


  • Pennyroyal – this oil has a pleasing aroma—except to fleas and ticks.  It also has medicinal properties that make it excellent for skin rashes and itching.


  • Pine Oil – serves as another repellent to bugs.


  • Aloe Vera Juice – a medicinal herb, Aloe Vera is soothing to the skin and is an irritant to fleas and ticks.


  • Also includes:  Green Tea Extract, Pelargonium Graveolens Flower Oil, Black Walnut Shell Extract, Myrrh Extract, Chamomile, Jojoba Seed Oil, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Cocamide DEA, Ammonium Chloride, Lecithin, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Vitamin A Acetate, Vitamin A Palmitate, Fragrance, Glycerin, Alcohol, Citric Acid, Biotin (Vitamin B7), Yellow 6, and Yellow 5.



Citronella Pet Spray


  • Oils of Citronella, Pennyroyal, Pine, Cedarwood, and Eucalyptus, Fresh Extracts of Wormwood, Rue, Extract of Black Walnut Leaves, Aloe Vera Extract, Chamomile Extract, Jojoba Oil, Rose Geranium Oil, and Deionized Water.





All of our Herbal Remedies contain certified herbs, botanical oils, and are blended with defatted nutrisoy.  They provide gentle relief for the most common ailments dogs and cats experience.



Allergy Relief 


  • Chamomile – relieves allergies much like an antihistamine, and also soothes and calms.


  • Hops – another calming herb, it also helps stimulate the appetite and will relieve cramps or diarrhea.


  • Papaya – effective in relieving allergies by its ability to denature proteins.


  • Also includes:  Horseradish, Green Tea, Mullein Leaves, and Wild Cherry Bark complete the formula.



Arthritis & Rheumatism


  • Glucosamine Sulfate – stimulates the manufacture of cartilage components for proper joint function.  It is also an anti-inflammatory to provide relief from swollen joints.


  • Celery Seed – used for centuries as a treatment for rheumatism, it reduces swelling and soreness in the joints.


  • Dandelion – another traditional herb used to alleviate chronic rheumatism.  It also helps to remove poisons from the body, acting as a stimulant.


  • Also includes:  Carrot, Cayenne Pepper, Chamomile, Mustard, Rosemary, Sage, and Yucca.



Epilepsy & Seizure


  • Valerian Root – is an anti-convulsant and antispasmodic herb.  It has been used since 1592 as a specific for epilepsy, and also serves as a calmative.


  • Blue Vervain – a natural tranquilizer, it calms over-excited nerves.


  • Passion Flower – this herb cures nervous conditions and acts as a natural sleep aid.


  • Also includes:  Chamomile, Ginseng, Nutmeg, and St. John’s Wort.



Excessive Barking & Excessive Chewing 


  • Blue Vervain - this is a natural tranquilizer, is excellent for nervous problems, and can also be used for insomnia.


  • Chamomile – this herb has been used for centuries to soothe excited nerves.


  • Ginseng – calms the stomach and is excellent for digestion.


  • St. John’s Wort – used for centuries as a calmative.


  • Also includes:  Hops, Sarsaparilla, Celery Leaf, Passion Flower, and Valerian Root.  The Excessive Chewing Formula also contains Lettuce as a sedative and calmative.



Hip Builder

  • Chondroitin – a natural component of the cartilage that cushions joints, Chondroitin increases joint mobility and diminishes pain from osteoarthritis.  It also increases cartilage elasticity and prevents enzymes that break down cartilage.


  •  Glucosamine Sulfate – Glucosamine is effective in easing osteoarthritis pain, rehabilitating cartilage, and repairing joints damaged by osteoarthritis.


  •  Alfalfa – a highly nutritious herb, alfalfa also relieves urinary and bowel problems.


  •  Also includes:  Cayenne Pepper, Celery Seed, Chamomile, Dandelion, Garlic, Green Tea, Rosemary, Sassafras, Wheat, and Yucca.



Nerve & Anxiety

  • Chamomile – this herb has been used for centuries to soothe excited nerves.


  •  Peppermint – eases stomach and bowl spasms, and relieves discomfort due to gas.

  • A pure, herbal blend of ingredients designed to relieve the skin discomfort caused by hot spots.
